Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 3:36 AM EDT Sep. 29, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Virginia and south central Virginia...
including the following areas... in central Virginia...
Amherst... Appomattox... Buckingham and Campbell. In south
central Virginia... Charlotte... Halifax and Pittsylvania.

* Through this afternoon

* periods of slow moving showers and thunderstorms can be expected
through this afternoon. Heavy rain is likely with up to 3 inches
of rain by late this afternoon. Localized heavier amounts are
possible. This amount of rainfall may cause flash flooding of
small streams and creeks. Urban areas and locations with poor
drainage also have a high potential for flooding.

* Streams and creeks may overflow their banks leading to flooded
and impassible roads.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Remember... turn around... don't drown!

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
