Special Statement
Issued: 2:42 AM MST Dec. 5, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Old man winter is set to arrive Wednesday afternoon in West
Texas and southeast New Mexico with an Arctic cold front...

Much colder temperatures are expected Wednesday afternoon through
Friday! A blast of Arctic air will send temperatures plunging
Wednesday afternoon across the Permian Basin north of Interstate
20 and the remainder of the area Wednesday night. Depending on the
timing of the front falling temperatures could occur Wednesday
afternoon across the northern Permian Basin. By Thursday morning,
lows will range from the mid teens in northern Lea County to the
upper 20s around ft Stockton. As the cold northeast upslope winds
push into The Trans Pecos around midnight Thursday morning an
upper air disturbance will approach resulting in an increased
chance of accumulating snow for the Interstate 10 corridor
including southern Culberson, Jeff Davis, northern Brewster,
southern Reeves and Pecos counties possibly resulting in dangerous
travel conditions. Thursday afternoon, high temperatures are not
forecast to climb out of the 30s in most areas, except along the
Rio Grande. Friday morning will be even colder than Thursday
morning, so prepare your plants, pipes, pets and vehicles for the
cold weather. Keep abreast of the latest weather forecast and
information for possible changes.
