Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 2:24 PM MDT Jul. 24, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
central Coconino County in north central Arizona...

* until 515 PM MST

* at 221 PM MST... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause Urban and Small Stream flooding in
the advisory area. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
East Flagstaff... Fernwood... wupatki trails... Doney Park...
timberline... Bonito campground at Sunset Crater...
Hutchison acres... Sunset Crater visitors center...
little Elden Spring horse Camp and Lockett Meadow Campground.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle
into areas where water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads... make the smart choice: turn around... don't drown.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on
small creeks and streams... and ponding of water in urban areas...
highways... streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage
areas and low lying spots.
