Watches & Warnings

High Wind Warning
Issued: 12:52 PM MDT Mar. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High Wind Warning remains in effect until 10 PM CDT /9 PM MDT/
this evening...

* timing... this afternoon and evening.

* Winds... west 35 to 55 mph with gusts to around 75 mph.

* Impacts... winds will be particularly hazardous at higher
elevations where the strongest winds are likely to occur. Be
especially careful driving in these mountainous areas as these
winds could make driving difficult for motorists driving high
profile vehicles such as campers, vans and tractor trailers.
Airplanes flying over the mountains may experience severe
turbulence.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

Fire Weather Watch, Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 2:42 PM MDT Mar. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning remains in effect until 1 am CDT /midnight
MDT/ Friday for windy and dry conditions...
... Fire Weather Watch now in effect from Friday morning through
Friday evening for windy and dry conditions...

* humidity... today 3 to 10 percent. Friday 12 to 15 percent.

* Wind... today above 6000 feet... southwest 30 to 50 mph. Below
6000 feet southwest 25 to 45 mph. Friday west 15 to 25 mph.

* Fire danger... very high to extreme.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

This is a very dangerous and potentially life threatening fire
weather situation. High winds and very low relative humidities
combined with recent dry spell are resulting weather conditions
favorable for fires. A regional outbreak of dangerous wind-driven
wildfires is possible into this evening.
