Issued: 4:56 AM PST Jan. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 am PST Monday...

* timing: snow showers will continue today. Heavy snow will return
by tonight and continue into early Monday morning.

* Snow accumulations: 3 to 6 feet above 8000 feet with amounts up
to 8 feet on the Sierra crest and 1 to 3 feet along Highway 395.
8 to 14 inches for valleys east of Highway 395.

* Winds: Sierra ridge winds increasing from 70 mph to over 100
mph on Sunday. Gusts up to 45 mph in the lower elevations.
Winds may damage trees and power lines.

* Impacts: dangerous conditions for outdoor activities and travel
with periods of whiteout conditions from tonight to Monday
morning over mountain passes and areas exposed to the wind along
Highway 395. Avalanche danger will increase. Do not attempt to
travel on Sunday. Stay home... stay safe.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Avoid travel if possible, you could be stuck in your vehicle for
many hours. Do not attempt to travel on Sunday. If you must
travel, use the break in the storm this afternoon to gather
supplies, remove snow from roofs, elevated decks and near propane
tanks. Be prepared for extended power outages.
