Special Statement
Issued: 3:26 PM AKDT Sep. 27, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Strong northerly winds to develop late this week...

There is a growing likelihood for a period of strong northerly
winds late this week. This will result in hazardous marine and
aviation conditions as well as the potential for power outages
and flying debris over land areas.

An unseasonably strong area of high pressure over the Yukon
combined with a surface low pressure system over the northeast
Pacific will lead to the development of strong northerly winds
Thursday night through Saturday. Highest winds are expected
Friday afternoon into Saturday with small craft to gale force
winds likely in the northern and central Inner Channels.
Locations with a north exposure or are near mountain passes in
the Coast Range will experience the highest winds. The potential
for a taku wind event in downtown Juneau and Douglas is also
likely with strong gusts expected Friday into early Saturday.

This statement will be updated by 6 am akdt Tuesday or sooner if
conditions warrant.
