Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 2:50 AM CST Feb. 24, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Indiana and Kentucky, including the following
areas, in Indiana, Clark, Crawford, DuBois, Floyd, Harrison,
Jefferson, Orange, Perry, Scott, and Washington. In Kentucky,
Allen, Anderson, Barren, Bourbon, Boyle, Breckinridge,
Bullitt, Butler, Clark, Edmonson, Fayette, Franklin, Grayson,
green, Hancock, Hardin, Harrison, Hart, Henry, Jefferson,
Jessamine, LaRue, Logan, Marion, Meade, Mercer, Nelson,
Nicholas, Ohio, Oldham, Scott, Shelby, Simpson, Spencer,
Taylor, Trimble, Warren, Washington, and Woodford.

* Through Sunday morning

* rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall are expected across the
watch area tonight through Sunday morning. Thunderstorms will
bring particularly high rainfall rates Saturday afternoon and
night. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rainfall with locally
higher amounts is expected through Sunday morning which will
result in areal flooding and flash flooding.

* This rainfall combined with already saturated soils will lead
to excessive runoff which will cause already swollen rivers to
rise more. Significant and continued rises on the Ohio,
Rolling Fork, Kentucky, rough, and green rivers, as well as
other area streams, are expected through the weekend. In
southern Indiana, the Blue River and muscatatuck river may see
significant rises.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

Monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible warnings. Those
living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take
action should flooding develop or worsen.
