Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 1:54 PM EDT Jul. 24, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a

* Flood Advisory for minor flooding in poor drainage areas for...
Kalamazoo County in southwestern Michigan...
northeastern Van Buren County in southwestern Michigan...

* until 745 PM EDT

* at 149 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain has fallen
across the area due to thunderstorms. Radar estimates show 3 to 4
inches of rain has fallen from Bloomingdale east through Cooper
and Parchment over to Augusta. This will cause minor flooding.
Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding in
the advisory area. Additional rainfall is possible later this
afternoon and evening... so conditions may worsen if storms and
rain develop again.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Kalamazoo... Portage... Paw Paw...
Westwood... Hartford... Galesburg...
Mattawan... Bangor... Climax...
Richland... south Gull Lake... Comstock northwest...
Alamo... Pine Grove... Lawrence...
Augusta... Gobles... Bloomingdale...
Breedsville... Mentha...

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated... or
ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.
It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles
away.
