Caption: Yaquina Head Lighthouse can be a spooky place on a dark, cold, windy night. Ghosts lurking, ship compasses not working. The fact that a lighthouse was even meant for Yaquina Head has come into question. Some say the lighthouse was intended for Cape Foulweather, about six miles north. Today's Cape Foulweather was named by Captain James Cook on March 7, 1778 for the stormy weather his expedition encountered there. For some reason, Cook did not name Yaquina Head, and until the 1890s it was often called Cape Foulweather by the locals and was listed as such on some nautical charts. Historical records show that the lighthouse was meant to be right where it is, but the undying myth that it was intended for the real Cape Foulweather only adds to its mystique. click the link for more on this historical lighthouse. http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=133

About RadioDJgirl

RadioDJgirl

My name is Tresa, thank you for stopping by to look at and comment on my photos! I'm a native of California, I spent 5 years in Ohio, and 1 year in Iowa before moving to Wenatchee Washington. I am a radio personality, a wife, mother, and a Christian. This site is so addicting and fun! I enjoy sharing my surroundings with you and checking out your photos as well. I love weather/landscape photography, but my real passion is portrait photography, because I like to make people happy when they see how good they can look in a photo. I joined this site around 2003 and you have all taught me so much about photography. I think my first submission was a sort of landscape that I accidentally took on the "flower" setting and someone here helped me out. I think I've learned more here, than I did in my photography class in college. Currently working part time in radio and you can listen on your computer by clicking the listen live button at http://kissin977.com/ or http://kw3.com/
