Hi Marijka,

Yes, this is a native Azalea.

This is one of my newest favorite azaleas! I've never seen one in the wild. This one came from a nursery. The tag identified it as a Florida Flame azalea (Rhododendron austrinum) Family: Ericaceae (heath Family)

I found this warning on a website: The Florida flame azalea is an endangered plant and must never be removed from the wild as this is illegal and selfish.

Our property in Florida was covered with what I called Wild Azaleas (Rhododendron canescens),the most common native azalea in the southeastern U.S. It grows along streams and swamp margins. The flowers were pink and filled the woods with the most heavenly fragrance! :)
