Special Statement
Statement as of 2:24 PM EST on March 04, 2015

... Rain mixed with sleet Thursday afternoon with patches of black
ice developing Thursday night...

Rain will spread across much of north Georgia Thursday. As colder
air spreads into the state during the afternoon... some of the rain
could be mixed with sleet... especially north of a line from
Carrollton... to Marietta... to Cleveland. No accumulation of sleet
is expected. The rain and sleet mix will diminish from the west Thursday
evening.

However as temperatures drop below freezing Thursday
night... patches of black ice could form creating slick spots on
roads. Patchy black ice will be possible north of a line from
Franklin... to Peachtree City... to Athens.

People traveling across north Georgia Thursday afternoon and
Thursday night should be prepared for slick spots on
roads... mainly after sunset Thursday evening.

... Mixture of sleet and light freezing rain possible Thursday morning
into the afternoon for portions of far north Georgia...

Rain will likely transition to a mixture of rain... sleet and light
freezing rain on Thursday as the next round of Arctic air pushes in
from the northwest behind a strong cold front. Areas along and north
of a Cedartown to Canton and Cleveland line have the best chance for
any light accumulations. Sleet amounts up to one quarter of an inch
and freezing rain amounts up to one tenth of an inch appear
possible. Locally higher amounts cannot be ruled out. Temperatures
will be falling through much of the day in this area... so any slick
spots that develop on roadways may continue to be a concern into the
evening as well.

Due to the continued uncertainty concerning this event... everyone
with interests across north Georgia are urged to remain alert for any
changes in later forecasts.
