Wet and unsettled weather continues for parts of the East and South on Tuesday as a cold front dropping southeastward across the Midwest reinforces another frontal boundary extending from the Northeast through the Central Plains. Expect rain and thunderstorm activity along and ahead the advancing cold front in parts of the Ohio Valley into New England, while a cooler airmass behind this cold front leads to cooler daytimes highs in the Upper Great Lakes and Northeast. Areas of isolated to scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop south of the main frontal disturbance from the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast through the Central and Southern Plains. Impulses from from the West will enhance precipitation eastern Oklahoma and northeastern Texas, as well as create the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms in parts of the Central and Southern High Plains. The Storm Prediction Center issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorm development from the late afternoon through the evening. While the main concerns with these storms are isolated areas of hail and damaging wind gusts, a localized tornado threat remains possible.

Meanwhile, thunderstorm will pick up across the High Plains late Monday afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorm development for parts of the region. While the main concerns with these storms are hail and damaging wind gusts, conditions may turn favorable for isolated tornadoes by the evening.

northeastern Lee... Wolfe and eastern Powell counties until 230 am
EDT...

At 1213 am EDT... the public had reported that flash flooding was
ongoing near the War Creek area. While thunderstorms with very heavy
rainfall have taper off across the warned area... excessive runoff
from previous heavy rainfall will continue to cause flash flooding
along small creeks and streams.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

advisory area. These storms could drop up to an inch and a half
of rainfall between 12:20 and 1 am... before tapering off.

* Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause minor flooding to
occur... especially along small streams and near low water

Local Storm Report


06/17/2013 1150 PM

War Creek, Breathitt County.

Flash flood, reported by public.


            War Creek Road that runs along and about 200 ft away from
            War Creek has water over Road washing out the roadway.
            Observer reported that this is a gravel Road but that the
            water is Knee Deep in places and flowing over the bridge.
            Not sure if this is a low water crossing. If creek rises
            2 to 3 feet higher he will need to evacuate.

Heavy rain m1.00 inch, reported by NWS employee.


            Rain fell within past 30 to 40 minutes. A wind gust of 40
            to 45 mph was also reported... knocking several shingles
            off roof and causing rain to leak in.
