Statement as of 3:57 PM EST on February 09, 2010 ... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST Wednesday... A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST Wednesday. Hazardous weather... * 3 to 6 inches of snow is expected tonight which will bring storm total snowfall into the 6 to 10 inch range. * A heavier burst of snow will occur late this afternoon and evening. The snow will lighten up late tonight. * Blowing and drifting snow is expected tonight and Wednesday as north winds increase to 15 to 30 mph. Impacts... * the heavy snow will significantly reduce visibility and result in snow covered and slippery roads. The evening commute home will be impacted. * Areas of blowing snow will limit visibility... especially in open country tonight and Wednesday. Use caution if you must travel tonight and Wednesday. * The Lake Michigan shoreline communities will be the most impacted by the blowing snow tonight and Wednesday. Visibilities may dip to around a half mile in blowing snow at times. Precautionary/preparedness actions... * a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. If you travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. |
