regional weather discussion... a very hot afternoon continues across Oklahoma and western North Texas with temperatures at 5 PM running from the middle 90s across southeast Oklahoma to near 110 degrees across western Oklahoma and portions of western North Texas. A weak surface boundary across northwest Oklahoma will be the focus for an isolated shower or two late this afternoon. Areas from near Freedom and Buffalo southwest to LaVerne... Shattuck and Arnett could see these showers. Very little rain is anticipated... however this activity could produce some very strong wind gusts in excess of 50 mph.

Statement as of 3:24 PM CDT on July 09, 2009
... Heat advisory in effect until 9 PM CDT Saturday...
The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a heat
advisory... which is in effect until 9 PM CDT Saturday.
Afternoon high temperatures will climb to 100 or above on Friday and
Saturday. Afternoon heat index values will reach 105 to 110 both
days. Early morning temperatures will only fall into the mid to
upper 70s.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. Hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to
create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink
plenty of water... stay in an air-conditioned room... stay out of
the sun... and check up on relatives and neighbors.
