Hi, folks!
Herb Talk on the Spring Harvest at 11am. Introduction to Blackwork embroidery at 3pm. Wicca 101 at 6pm.
Bright sunshine is pouring into my study. The roof of the house next door is quite thoroughly frosted over. Little frosty bits are weighing down the catkins on the alder and the small tree by the path. They suddenly melt, some of their substance vanishing with a tiny puff of vapor when the sun hits. The rest becomes a sparkling gem of purest white. No trembling rainbows this morning! ...The porch roof is beginning to drip and now the droplets start to shiver and sparkle from the light breeze that’s coming up.
Since Sunday is the early day, I took the car down to the shop and got things open. I can’t do the flags by myself, but I can get everything else up and running. I pulled my little rolly seat out of the car and did the harvesting from the planters, finding the cutest little snail, but the pictures that I took of him didn’t come out, drattit. As soon as I had that done, I went in and picked up the classroom and got that ready, then went back up to the front and made some headers for the herbs and crystals that I found the evening before. I processed the pictures that I had taken and got ready to upload them. I was just calling Tempus to let him know that I hadn’t seen anyone from Job Corps, when 3 of them came in! They got to wander around the shop a little while I got the pictures uploaded and then we started in to class.
…The sun is brighter, if that’s possible, and sparkles from the glass hummingbird and drips falling from the porch roof are shooting little sparkles around my study. The porch roof is almost running streams as the frost melts. Every so often a drop hits the porch rail and splatters which throws a spray of sparkling droplets. The grass is going from greenish-gray back to green where the sun is touching it and a beautiful hummingbird is having a meal. Each time he pulls his head back his red throat shines like a jewel. …
Brea came in and got set up just as Wicca 101 finished, so the young folks went straight into her class. Tempus came down on his bike after they were well underway, bringing at hot lunch that we all got as he was setting up the VCR for the movie. The Burning Times is a classic documentary that has Margot Adler, Starhawk and lot of pagan historians. Some of it is more pagan myth than history, but it’s still worth watching. Tempus hadn’t seen it, either, since we’ve never had a personal copy. The tapes we have now (and we have the whole trilogy) were donated to the shop library not long ago. The young folks got a bit of a break, at that point, while Tempus and I talked to a friend who was delivering some organic chicken eggs (oh, yum!) and then we finished up the day with Preserving Flowers. We’ve got one beautiful double daffodil sitting in Flower-Dry™. At that point Tempus took them back to the Center and I got some sewing time in, then put my feet up while he was working on filing.
Tempus just came in with a roll of embroidery fabric that I had thrown out because I thought it was too stained to use. He managed to bleach the stains out and while I can’t use it for the original purpose in a kit since the stiffening dissolves in water, I’ll use it for another scroll sampler of my own.
…A puff of steam just floated up from a patch of frosted grass that had been hiding behind one of the species roses in the retaining wall. A bird landed on a upper branch of the alder which sent a spray of drops onto the branches below, which dislodged more. A shower of diamonds! …
I’m hoping to get the laminator out today. We have quite a lot of bookmarks & posters to do and I’d like to try with the dried flower bookmarks. I have some harvesting to do before I head to the shop, since that’s the first class…and I just realized that with the Blackwork class at 3pm, I should take that roll of fabric with me. I don’t have a sampler of my own to work on, just the fancy bit on the scroll frame.
The shop opens at 10 today and we’ll be there through class time. Spring Break hours from 3/24-4/1, 10am-6pm, only closed on Tuesday from Saturday the 23rd through Sunday, the 1st. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!
Love & Light,
Anja

The Moon is a waxing crescent. Waxing Moon Magick - The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. Diana’s Bow – On the 3rd day after the new moon you can (weather permitting) see the tiny crescent in the sky, the New Moon holding the Old Moon in her arms. Begin on your goals for the next month. A good time for job interviews or starting a project. Take a concrete step! Diana’s Bow lasts until Monday at 7:37pm. Waxing Crescent phase - Keywords for the Crescent phase are: expansion, growth, struggle, opportunity. It is the time in a cycle that you gather the wisdom learned in the new phase and communicate your intention to move forward. Light a candle. Write or read an affirmation. LISTEN & ABSORB. Commit to your goal.
The Moon and Venus, the two brightest celestial objects after the Sun, appear paired up in the west this evening. In reality Venus is 260 times farther away. It's at a distance of 6 light-minutes from Earth, compared to the Moon's distance of 1.3 light-seconds. Jupiter, looking on from below, is currently 48 light-minutes from Earth.
Coincidentally, Venus is at its greatest elongation: 46° east of the Sun. That makes this the very best possible time to spot Venus during daylight hours.
Brighter Venus will be much easier to spot to the Moon's right in late afternoon Monday the 26th.
Venus is at greatest elongation this week (exact on March 26th). For skywatchers at mid-northern latitudes, this is Venus's highest showing in its 8-year cycle of apparitions.

Fearn Alder Mar 18 - Apr 14 - Fern - (FAIR-n), alder - The common alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertner) is common along lowland rivers, where it grows with aspens, poplars, and willows. Like willows, alders sprout from stumps. This allows them to regenerate after heavy flooding. In protect sites they may grow to 20 m (65 feet) tall. Their leaves are more blunt-tipped than most North American alders, which look more like the grey alder (A. incana (L.) Moench). This species is more common in the mountains of Europe, and is not restricted to moist soils. Like ashes, European alders are not widely cultivated in North American (they are often sold as black alders), but several native species are. Alder wood is said to resist rotting when it is wet, and was the wood of choice for pilings in many regions. Alders are members of the Birch family (Betulaceae).

Energy list
3/19/12 – For a high-schooler, crazy for basketball and volleyball who went down with a concussion early in the season. They’re telling her none of her favorite sports for a year, minimum, we’re asking for healing and the strength to deal with not being able to do what she loves for the moment.
3/16/12 – For someone who has found a dream job and wants some extra oomph to help him get it.
3/7/12 - 9-year-old boy with an inoperable brain tumor. Starting radiation. Family and friends asking help for him and for the children that know him.
3/7/12 – “I would also like to ask for healing...I just want to be whole again...able to walk so I can take care of the things I need to take care of. I know with the whole almost dying thing that it would take me a while to recover but a month and a half of being practically bed ridden..its a lot slower than I anticipated...I am just feeling trapped by my own body and these circumstances. To be honest it may seem bigger than it really is because I'm so inward focused and emotional right now. On the plus side I am very happy to say that I have more energy and am walking further every day ;-)”

Silliness – Found by Robyne!
FOUR ALL WHO REED AND RIGHT
We'll begin with a box, and the plural is boxes;
but the plural of ox became oxen not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
yet the plural of moose should never be meese.
You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice;
yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.
If the plural of man is always called men,
why shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?
If I spoke of my foot and show you my feet,
and I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,
why shouldn't the plural of booth be called beeth?
Then one may be that,
And three would be those,
yet hat in the plural would never be hose,
and the plural of cat is cats, not cose.
We speak of a brother and also of brethren,
but though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then the masculine pronouns are he, his and him,
but imagine the feminine, she, shis and shim.
