Hi, folks!

Earth Day. Wicca 101 at 10am. Brea's Elements at Noon. Practical Craft at 2pm.

I’m up well before sunrise. It’s actually before Civil Twilight and while there’s just enough light to set the silhouettes of trees against the lightening sky.

…an hour later, mist is blowing around, causing water to drip from the porch roof, mostly the dew, but fog can add just enough to make things drip. It’s very clear and though the sun supposedly rose 10 minutes ago it doesn’t look like it, yet. It’s already 48F and supposed to be just as nice as yesterday, once the fog goes away.

It was good to see Hatch and Travis. They came into the study for a hug just before I headed for the shop and they went hunting breakfast, and they got to the shop right around noon while I was powdering rose petals. I had been storing things like the dried horehound and asked Tempus to clean the coffee grinder that we use for large-scale grinding of herbs. I ended up powdering it, which worked well, so I tried the same with the rose petals… not quite so well…. I do get some powder and if I were going to be a perfectionist I suppose I could reduce all of it to that, but enough start to “gum” in the grinder that I stopped with about 1/3 powder, 1/3 pieces up to ¼ inch and the rest between… that’s good enough to add to candles, I think.

I also got the daffodils (most of them) stored. I have a big jar full and a couple of flower heads that went through the silica gel process.

Hatch and Travis and I talked until well past the time for starting the rock tumbler stuff, so I asked Tempus to start on that. I didn’t get all the stones sorted until late in the day, but there’s a tray of them that I’ll start bagging today, including more of the purple “jade” and a couple of beautiful, tiny fluorites and some nice jaspers.

I didn’t get to the silk flowers, maybe today…..

Tempus waded through packing materials for a large chunk of the day. I’m seeing major progress.

Sewing Workshop had me, Hatch & Travis, and Mary, who has been working on her own projects. Marcia-Beth came in bearing goodies and we sat around working and talking for a couple of hours. I ended up telling the story of the Women’s War, which is a Czech legend of events from back in the 600’s and we talked about sigil magicks.

After that, Hatch and Travis needed to head back to the Valley, so we said our goodbyes and I went back to work on the crystals, got them sorted and the large tumbler running on the 3rd grit and the small with a first grit of various small stones.

…chickadees on the feeder and one gold-crowned sparrow….

Tempus and I closed up after that and went to Patterson Park to watch the sunset, which was glorious. We were talking about what I call the “Numenor effect”, the way that clouds at the horizon often look like distant land, which was really marked last night. We found Venus well before sunset. It’s actually really easy, as high as it is in the sky.

We came home and ate and then I crashed because I was going to try to get up to watch the Lyrids… didn’t happen.

Today is the Wicca 101 class for Job Corps, then Brea’s Elements class, then Practical Craft, which is probably going to be on Herbs today, maybe incense…. Tempus has some small engine repairs to do and when he comes back, packing materials. I still need to work on the silk flowers and the new crystals.

I’m hoping that it stays nice enough to try to see Diana’s Bow at sunset tonight.

The shop opens at 11am today, although I’ll be in around 9am because of the classes. Spring hours, 11am-6pm, Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

Love & Light,
Anja

Today
The Moon is New going into Diana’s Bow at 12:19pm. New Moon - The beginning of a new cycle. - Keywords for the New phase are: beginning, birth, emergence, projection, clarity. It is the time in a cycle that you are stimulated to take a new action. During this phase the new cycle is being seeded by your vision, inner and outer. Engage in physical activity. Spend time alone. VISUALIZE your goals for the 29.6-day cycle ahead. The new moon is for starting new ventures, new beginnings. Also love and romance, health or job hunting. Waxing Moon Magick - The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. New Moon ends at 12:18pm

Diana’s Bow – On the 3rd day after the new moon you can (weather permitting) see the tiny crescent in the sky, the New Moon holding the Old Moon in her arms. Begin on your goals for the next month. A good time for job interviews or starting a project. Take a concrete step!
Waxing Crescent phase - Keywords for the Crescent phase are: expansion, growth, struggle, opportunity. It is the time in a cycle that you gather the wisdom learned in the new phase
and communicate your intention to move forward. Light a candle. Write or read an affirmation. LISTEN & ABSORB. Commit to your goal.

The weak but unpredictable Lyrid meteor shower should reach maximum activity in the hours before dawn Sunday morning. There will be no Moon. You might see a dozen Lyrids per hour under ideal dark-sky conditions before the beginning of dawn. See A Good Year for Lyrid Meteors.
Venus (magnitude –4.7, in Taurus) is blazing the highest and brightest it ever appears in its 8-year cycle of repeating apparitions. It comes into easy view high in the west right after sunset, and doesn't set in the northwest until around 11 or even midnight daylight saving time. You can see Venus through the clear blue sky of day if your eye lands right on it; look for it 42° (about four fist-widths at arm's length) to the Sun's celestial east-northeast. Look high to Venus's upper right at dusk for Capella, to its lower left for Aldebaran, and farther to its lower right for the Pleiades. Far beneath Venus, Jupiter is sinking into the sunset. The best time to examine Venus in a telescope is late afternoon or around sundown. It's now a thick crescent 33 arcseconds tall and 33% sunlit, waning and enlarging week by week as it swings closer to Earth. Venus will transit the face of the Sun on June 5–6 (the afternoon of the 5th for North America).

Saille Willow Apr 15 - May 12 - The Willow in the Tree alphabet stands for the female and lunar rhythms of life. She is water-seeking, thriving from preference on the damp margins of lakes and streams or across the low-lying water meadows. Water and the tidal movements of the sea are governed by the pull of the moon. The moon in its monthly rhythms is female, contrasting with the male sun's daily and yearly turnings. In several ways, the Celts held women in higher regard than we do today. On the material level, women were property owners, and whoever controlled the property controlled the marriage. Women of all types and ages appeared in the Celtic pantheon, the spiritual strength and life-giving qualities given by both female and male recognized equally. There were colleges of Druidesses - learned women and teachers - respected equally for their gifts of see-ship, often expressed through dreams, or night visions.
Magical Associations: Romantic love, healing, protection, fertility, magic for women.

Quotes
The best words for resolving a disagreement are, 'I could be wrong; I often am.' It's true. - Brian Tracy
The distinction between the past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion. - Albert Einstein
The great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it. - William James
The private control of credit is the modern form of slavery. - Upton Sinclair (1878-1968) US writer

Scream Therapy
I would scream if it would help.
But right now, I don't even know
If it would.

A timid scream might ease
The pressure, without my having
To come out of my shell.

A medium scream would help
Even more, but no one would call
The cops.

A loud scream would scare my pets,
But the neighbors wouldn't hear it
Through closed doors.

Hmmm.
To maximize Scream Therapy,
I think first I will write down all the
Things, people, situations that I want
To scream about.

Then, I will go over the list until
I am so into the emotion and upset
That I scream loud enough to
Wake The Dead!

Then, I will spend all night
Trying to get them to go back to
Their graves.
Mission accomplished! - © Copyright 11/1/05 Beth Johnson (Mystic Amazon)

Magick – Beltane
Nine Sacred Woods of Beltane
http://paganwiccan.about.com/od/beltane/a/ninewoo ds.htm
The nine kinds of wood used in the Beltane fire
One of the best-known Celtic traditions for Beltane is the lighting of the Beltane fires. These huge fires were set to welcome back the sun for the light (summer) half of the year. All the hearth fires were extinguished on May Eve, and then they were relit the next day from the Beltane fires.
The fires were started with nine sacred woods, each with various magickal properties. People would gather and dance around the fires through the night, jumping over the flames to ensure a successful and prosperous summer.
Birch - The Goddess, or female energy
Oak - The God, or male energy
Hazel - Knowledge and wisdom
Rowan (Mountain Ash) - Life
Hawthorne - Purity and fairy magick
Willow - Death, sacred to Hecate
Fir - Birth and rebirth
Apple - Love and family
Vine - Joy and happiness

These 9 woods are mentioned in the Wiccan Rede:
"Nine woods in the cauldron go, burn them quick and burn them slow."
Some longer versions of the Rede include lines about all 9 woods:
"Nine woods in the Cauldron go, burn them fast and burn them slow.
Birch wood in the fire goes to represent what the Lady knows.
Oak in the forest, towers with might in the fire it brings the God's insight.
Rowan is a tree of power causing life and magick to flower.
Willows at the waterside stand ready to help us to the Summerland.
Hawthorn is burned to purify and to draw faerie to your eye.
Hazel-the tree of wisdom and learning- adds its strength to the bright fire burning.
White are the flowers of Apple tree that brings us fruits of fertility.
Grapes grow upon the vine giving us both joy and wine.
Fir does mark the evergreen to represent immortality seen.
But - Elder is the Lady's tree burn it not or cursed you'll be."

Energy list
4/16/12 – For someone who has found a dream job and wants some extra oomph to help him get it.
4/13/12 – “I am still very sick and have been for a month now - really need help kicking this on the spiritual plane - depression makes you sick and I am having a hard time climbing out of this hole. I now have bronchitis as well as the ongoing infection - see Dr again on Monday - This is probably the only request for help/healing I have ever made - but I just can't seem to kick this on my own. Whatever you think will help - I feel like I am dying a very slow and painful death.”
4/8/12 – For an older father with various health issues that gave us all a scare a while back. He’s much better, but still needs help to get back to health.
4/7/12 - 9-year-old boy with an inoperable brain tumor. Starting radiation. Family and friends asking help for him and for the children that know him. Update 4/7 He’s doing pretty well and back in school despite the treatments.
3/28/12 – For a man who is terrified he’s going to lose his small daughter to her mother’s new boyfriend. The guy seems to be intent on leaving with her, even if he has no legal right.

Silliness – GCF: Tennis Camp

At the start of a tennis camp for youngsters, the instructor asked, "Can anyone tell me what a good sport is?"
