Hi, folks!

Wicca 101 at 10am. Brea’s Elements at Noon. Practical Craft at 2pm.

There’s a solar eclipse today! The total eclipse is visible as close as Port Orford!!!! We’re only going to see a partial, but it oughta be spectacular. http://www.space.com/15657-annular-solar-eclipse-o ccurs-may20.html
http://www.skyandtelescope.com/community/skyblog/ observingblog/A-Preview-of-May-20ths-Annular-Eclip se-141037803.html Please, be smart and do not look at the sun. You can use binoculars or a telescope to project the images onto a white surface. Better yet… punch a bunch of holes in heavy paper and look at the shadow of the sun shining through it onto the ground of white paper. That one’s weird…. It’s been pointed out that welder’s goggles will work, but please don’t try to use sunglasses. Tempus had a blank spot on his retina for about 1 ½ years from just a slip.

Somehow I don’t think we’re going to see it up here. There’s been a little dripping outside and it’s raining gently, right now. It makes the green of the alder really pop out. It’s n the low 50’s, heading for 61F today and there’s no wind at all that I can see. The drizzle is just coming down steadily.

The was a house sparrow on the feeder just now. …and a pair… and another solo… and a Stellar Jay. Something’s hopping around in the alder, shivering a branch…just I didn’t see a bird.

I didn’t get going on sage and bay. Instead Tempus and I started with inventorying the incense and the unders for that display since it was just us in the morning. We got that done just in time for Willow to show up for Rock Tumbler workshop. She got the basics and we got both of the tumblers going again. The big one is running on coarse grit, but there are enough stones that need the 2nd grit to fill the small tumbler, so that’s running.

After that I got going on herbs. I had picked the sweet woodruff blooms as I was heading to the shop, so those landed in a basket. I had finished powdering comfrey, so started with getting the kyphi bagged. There are 3 large bags of the new, small bits that Tempus thought might work really well, and only 3 small bags because we still have a lot of the small bags from the previous batch and only one of the large left. He’s been burning quite a bit of it, but there’s enough to make another set at this point.

Next up was getting more headers done, not just for the kyphi, but hops, willow bark, white sage (Willow prepped and bagged that…) and some bits and pieces of other things.

Willow and I were the only ones there for Sewing, since Mary was out because of a sore throat, and then Tempus and Willow went to help someone move a big, heavy stove, so Kaleb and I were the only ones at the shop!

At that point I started powdering yarrow (with Kaleb’s fascinated help) and got all last year’s crop done, then bagged quite a bit, got the headers done and by then they were back. There are some yarrow flowers to do, still, and there may be some leaf that’s bagged, but I didn’t find any more.

Willow and I started working on the kid’s section, not just of the library, but the materials that are already there. I’ve asked Tempus to get some of our old “kid vacation” boxes out of storage, so those materials can get added to the pile. She started with getting some of the organizers put together, and began sorting, but it was getting late enough that Tempus and I needed to get home.

So today is just the usual Sunday stuff except for the eclipse. We’re pretty excited about that! I’m thinking that I might run the “Sun Dagger” movie at 1pm in honor of that.

The shop opens at 11am, but we’ll be there a little after 9am because of class. Spring hours, 11am-7pm, Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

Love & Light,
Anja

Today
The Moon is New at 4:47pm. Waning Moon Magick - From the Full Moon to the New is a time for study, meditation, and magic designed to banish harmful energies and habits, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity. End of the cycle - In the time leading up to the “New Moon” you may do banishings and other baneful magicks and healings that require blasting a disease away.
The Tide Change is at 4:47pm on Sunday. Coming up on an eclipse, if you have a bad habit you want to break, now is the time!

New Moon - The beginning of a new cycle. - Keywords for the New phase are: beginning, birth, emergence, projection, clarity. It is the time in a cycle that you are stimulated to take a new action. During this phase the new cycle is being seeded by your vision, inner and outer. Engage in physical activity. Spend time alone. VISUALIZE your goals for the 29.6-day cycle ahead. The new moon is for starting new ventures, new beginnings. Also love and romance, health or job hunting. Waxing Moon Magick - The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams.

Partial/annular eclipse of the Sun! This afternoon, all but easternmost North America will experience at least a partial eclipse of the Sun. So will the Pacific and (on the morning of May 21st local date) the eastern half of Asia. The eclipse will become annular — with the rim of the Sun a brilliant ring surrounding the dark silhouette of the Moon — along a path from south China and parts of Japan across the Pacific to the California-Oregon coast and from there southeastward to end at sunset in Texas.
New Moon (exact at 7:47 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time).
For us on the Central Coast the eclipse will not completely obscure the Sun, with the Moon just taking a big bite out of it. However, the full annular eclipse will be visible as close as Port Orford!
Day by day the waxing Moon marches up away from the Sun, even as Venus moves (more slowly) down toward the Sun. Visibility of the faint objects in bright twilight is exaggerated; bring binoculars.
Arcturus shines high in the southeastern sky after dark. Vega, equally bright, shines lower in the northeast. A third of the way from Arcturus to Vega, look for dim Corona Borealis, the Northern Crown, with its one modestly bright star, Alphecca. Two thirds of the way from Arcturus to Vega is the dim Keystone of Hercules.

Celtic tree month Huath Hawthorn May 13 - Jun 9 - I am fair among flowers - Color: Purple - Class: Peasant - Letter: H - Meaning: Being held back for a period of time - Hawthorn - Like willows, hawthorns have many species in Europe, and they are not always easy to tell apart. All are thorny shrubs in the Rose family (Rosaceae), and most have whitish or pinkish flowers. The common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) and midland hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata (Poiret) DC.) are both widespread. They are common in abandoned fields and along the edges of forests. Both are cultivated in North America, as are several native and Asiatic hawthorns. Curtis Clark

SUPPER

Dragon scales and lizard skin
Eye of newt and parrot's chin;

Stir it backwards, stir it forward
Pour in milk, to make a custard;

Don't forget the lettuce leaves,
(For fiber and for health we weave);

Bananas, Apples and pinch of Sin
Don't forget to put those in;

Froggie toes and maple syrup,
Jelly beans and a big fat turnip;

Don't forget your favorite chants
For good luck and for happenstance;

This is my favorite recipe,
That my Aunt Hagatha gave to me. - © July 2005, Beth Johnson (Mystic Amazon)

Magick –
Daily Om - May 4, 2012 - Noticing Synchronicity - Interconnected Experiences
Things happen in our lives for a reason, even if that reason is not clear to you right away.

When events appear to fit together perfectly in our lives it may seem at first that they are random occurrences, things that are the result of coincidence. These synchronous happenings, though, are much more than that, for, if we look at them more closely they can show us that the universe is listening to us and gently communicating with us. Learning to pay attention to and link the things that occur on a daily basis can be a way for us to become more attuned to the fact that most everything happens in our lives for a reason – even when that reason is not clear right away.

When we realize that things often go more smoothly than we can ever imagine, it allows us to take the time to reflect on the patterns in our lives. Even events that might not at first seem to be related to each other are indicators that the universe is working with, not against, us. This idea of synchronicity, then, means that we have to trust there is more to our lives than what we experience on a physical level. We need to be willing to look more closely at the bigger picture, accepting and having confidence in the fact that there is more to our experiences than immediately meets the eye. Being open to synchronicity also means that we have to understand that our lives are filled with both positive and negative events. Once we can recognize that one event is neither more desirable nor better than the other – they all have an overall purpose in our lives -- then we are truly ready to listen to the messages the universe gives us.

While we may not be able to see everything in our lives as being synchronous, we can certainly use hindsight to be more aware of how the universe guides us. This sense of wonder at the mysteries of the universe and the interconnectedness present in our lives will help us see our overall ways of being and will in turn make it easier to work more consciously towards our spiritual evolution.
