Hi, folks!

Wicca 103 tonight at 5pm.

It’s very quiet outside. No leaves are stirring. There are water droplets hanging undisturbed on the vines off the porch. It’s not even 50F, quite, no birds and very, very green.

Travis and Hatch left mid-afternoon yesterday. We had a good visit.

More got done on Café Press. I got the products for the Pan-Pagan Gathering done. You can see them here: http://www.cafepress.com/ancientlight/8978059 It’s a limited set. If there’s something that you want beyond those, let me know. We’re going to use proceeds from this particular set to pay back the shop for materials for the events (think paper and ink, at minimum…) I went on from there into the “Happy Naked Pagan Dance” set, adding the newest products.

I spent some time on Advanced Circle Magick by Kirk White. It’s taking me a while to get through it.

I got another step farther on the hood pattern. I have to borrow Tempus’ hood to make sure the proportions are right, but I actually have a drawing.

From what I could tell the garden is doing ok. It certainly likes the rain! There’s a lot of calendula that needs to be harvested again.

Rowan went down to the shop yesterday and worked in the library. It sounds like everything that was in the boxes under the table got tagged and entered into the computer file.

Everyone was up here for esbat. I was crashed in the bedroom, asleep, waking when Kaleb came in to say hi and then getting back on the computer for a while. I got the Green Screen Fantasy Portraits at Ancient Light page up on Facebook, finally. I’m still uploading pictures and sorting them, but that’s fun, at least.

I’m not going to try to go to the shop today. When Tempus and I talked about it we decided that me being able to teach tonight was more important than me being at the shop, so I’m going back to bed for some more sleep and going to take it easy.

It was utterly still when I got up, but now everything's dripping enough that there's spray all over and tree leaves are bouncing from the drops hitting them.

The shop opens at 11am today and be open through class time. Spring hours, 11am-7pm, Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

Love & Light,
Anja

Today
The Moon is in Diana’s Bow On the 3rd day after the new moon you can (weather permitting) see the tiny crescent in the sky, the New Moon holding the Old Moon in her arms. Begin on your goals for the next month. A good time for job interviews or starting a project. Take a concrete step! Phase ends on Thursday at 4:47pm.
Waxing Crescent phase - Keywords for the Crescent phase are: expansion, growth, struggle, opportunity. It is the time in a cycle that you gather the wisdom learned in the new phase
and communicate your intention to move forward. Light a candle. Write or read an affirmation. LISTEN & ABSORB. Commit to your goal. Waxing Crescent Phase ends at the ¼ moon at 1:16pm on Monday.
Waxing Moon Magick - The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams.

This evening Pollux and Castor are lined up above or upper right of the crescent Moon.
Mars (magnitude +0.3) shines orange under the belly of Leo. It's high in the south-southwest at dusk and lower in the southwest to west later in the evening. Spot Regulus 10° or 12° to Mars's right in twilight, and to its lower right later. They're moving farther apart daily. Fainter Gamma Leonis is 8° above Regulus; the three form a triangle. Mars in a telescope is gibbous and very small (about 8.5 arcseconds wide), fading and shrinking.
Saturn (magnitude +0.3, in Virgo) shines high in the south after dark. Spica, fainter and bluer, is nearly 5° to Saturn's lower right early in the evening, and directly below it later.

Celtic tree month Huath Hawthorn May 13 - Jun 9 - I am fair among flowers - Color: Purple - Class: Peasant - Letter: H - Meaning: Being held back for a period of time - Hawthorn - Like willows, hawthorns have many species in Europe, and they are not always easy to tell apart. All are thorny shrubs in the Rose family (Rosaceae), and most have whitish or pinkish flowers. The common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) and midland hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata (Poiret) DC.) are both widespread. They are common in abandoned fields and along the edges of forests. Both are cultivated in North America, as are several native and Asiatic hawthorns. Curtis Clark

Quotes
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. - Franklin D. Roosevelt
The quiet hour of prayer is one of the most favorable opportunities he has in which to speak to us seriously. In quietude and solitude before the face of God our souls can hear better than at any other time. - O. Hallesby
The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Americans are suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. If they're okay, then it's you. - Rita Mae Brown.
The two great European narcotics, alcohol and Christianity. – Nietzsche

Sonnets to Orpheus, Part One, XII
Bless the spirit that makes connections,
for truly we live in what we imagine.
Clocks move along side our real life
with steps that are ever the same.

Though we do not know our exact location,
we are held in place by what links us.
Across trackless distances
antennas sense each other.

Pure attention, the essence of the powers!
Distracted by each day's doing,
how can we hear the signals?

Even as the farmer labors
there where the seed turns into summer,
it is not his work. It is Earth who gives. ~ Rainer Maria Rilke ~

Lore: The God and the Goddess are in Their prime, at Their highest power. This is the longest day of the year and the shortest night. The Goddess is pregnant. After this day, the light begins to wane until the Winter Solstice.

Special Time: The focus of this holiday is again on fertility but also on strength and focus. Plans made at Imbolc, put into motion at Ostara, and encouraged at Beltane should now be in fruition. It is a time to give thanks for the gifts and for our health. After this day things will change somewhat, waning again, and this must be prepared for. This is a celebration of work AND of pleasurable activities. It is also a good time for a dedication rite or a re-affirmation spell.

Activities: On Litha, we celebrate the power of the Sun and play outside as much as possible, taking pleasure in Nature as a child would. Summertime flowers can be collected and used to adorn the altar, the home, and the body. Many people like to make love charms at this time and also cast love-related spells and any other kinds of magick, since this is the highest power of the God and Goddess and therefore there is quite a bit of energy to harness. Some people believe the elves and fairies are afoot and leave out food for them. Some like to cook potpourri made of flowers. One custom is to make one yellow feather wreath and one red feather wreath and tie them together with ivy.

Subject: [Hearth_Witch] Midsummer Symbolism

Midsummer Symbolism
Symbolism - Nurturing and love are key actions related to Midsummer. If you haven't yet done so, Litha is a good time to perform your Self-Dedication Ceremony... or - if you have been practicing Wicca for a while - you may choose to perform a simple Re-dedication/Affirmation as a part of your Sabbat celebration. The powers of nature are at their highest point. Great time for herb gathering. Longest day of the year, marks the time when days begin to get shorter again.
Symbols - fire to celebrate the power of the sun, sun wheels, god eyes, mother goddess, ripening fruits, sun dials, feathers, and swords/blades.

Deities - Father Gods and Mother Goddesses, Pregnant Goddesses and Sun Deities. Particular emphasis might be placed on the Goddesses Aphrodite, Astarte, Freya, Hathor, Ishtar, Venus and other Goddesses who preside over love, passion and beauty. Other Litha deities include Athena, Artemis, Dana, Kali, Isis, Juno, Apollo, Dagda, Gwydion, Helios, Llew, Oak/Holly King, Lugh, Ra, Sol, Zeus, Prometheus, Ares, and Thor.

Magick - Healings, growth spells, empowerment spells, and love magick are all incredibly potent at this time

Tools - drums, rattles, bonfire, mirrors for reflecting the sun or bonfire, Earth circles of stone energy

Colors - white, red, maize yellow or golden yellow, green, blue and tan.

Stones - all green gemstones, especially emerald and jade. Other appropriate gemstones are tiger's eye, lapis lazuli, ruby, and diamonds.

Animals - include robins, wrens, all Summer birds, horses and cattle. Mythical creatures include satyrs, faeries, firebirds, dragons, thunderbirds and manticores.

Herbs - chamomile, cinquefoil, elder, fennel, hemp, larkspur, lavender, male fern, mugwort, pine, roses, Saint John's wort, honesty, wild thyme, wisteria, oak, mistletoe, frankincense, lemon, sandalwood, heliotrope, copal, saffron, galangal, laurel ylang-ylang, and verbena. Traditionally, herbs gathered on this day are extremely powerful.

Incense - a combination of any of the following or simply one of them by itself... frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood, lemon, pine, jasmine, rose, lotus, or wisteria.

Foods - for Litha include fresh vegetables of all kinds and fresh fruits such as lemons and oranges, pumpernickel bread as well as Summer squash and any yellow or orange colored foods. Flaming foods are also appropriate, barbecued anything, (barbecues represent the bonfires....) but especially chicken or pork. Midsummer is also the time for making mead, since honey is now plentiful. Traditional drinks are ale, mead, sweet wines, fresh fruit juice of any kind and herb teas.

Element: fire

Silliness – GCF: Being Polite

One day, Bill and Tom went to a restaurant for dinner. As soon as the waiter brought out two steaks, Bill quickly picked out the bigger steak for himself.

Tom wasn't happy about that: "When are you going to learn to be polite?"

Bill: "If you had the chance to pick first, which one would you pick?"

Tom: "The smaller piece, of course."

Bill: "What are you complaining about? The smaller piece is what you got, right?"
