23.41 A quiet night as many teams are involved in friendlies. Perhaps, as is rumoured, Manchester United are locked in talks with Valencia over David Silva. Perhaps not but Spurs fans can rest easy; Heurelho Gomes says he's staying, despite considerable interest. Make sure you Spurs fans sleep tight.

21.28 Twitter is the place to go if you want to hear about football transfers. Team USA striker Jozy Altidore has revealed he may be playing for Hull City by pointing out on the social network site: "First match is against Chelsea, subject to a work permit *wink* *wink*," wrote Altidore. "Thanks for the support and love - keep it coming." Hull are also to sign Stoke midfielder Seyi Olofinjana who looked headed for Monaco when last we checked.

20.30 Xabi Alonso has been unveiled as a Real Madrid player. "It's the best opportunity for me to develop as a footballer,'' says Xabi to a chorus of boos on Merseyside.

19.34 Hull City look to have made a double signing. SA striker Jozy Altidore and Stoke midfielder Seyi Olofinjana are to be publicly unveiled so expect some grandstanding from Phil Brown.

18.06 Strong words from Steve Bruce on Darren Bent. "He's everything I want," says the Sunderland boss who got the striker for £10m, considerably less than Spurs wanted for him.

17.54 Twitter user Darren Bent is now a Sunderland player as his unhappy two years at Tottenham, in which he has grabbed a decent goal tally, comes to an end.

17.26 Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has signed a new three-year contract, which means he'll be at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable.

17.03 Toulouse are expected to demand a huge fee from Tottenham for France youngster Moussa Sissoko.

16.50 Liverpool have agreed a fee with Roma, thought to be around £20m, for the transfer of Italy midfielder Alberto Aquilani.

16.23 AC Milan chief Silvio Berlusconi has informed Chelsea that "Andrea Pirlo has been taken off the market".

15.50 Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has told Arsenal to keep their grubby hands off giant centre-back Brede Hangeland.

15.15 Former West Ham United defender Lucas Neill, who left the Hammers at the end of his contract in June, is reportedly in talks with Sunderland.

14.50 Xabi Alonso has passed his medical at Real Madrid so it looks like Liverpool will be looking for a new midfielder.

14.06 Fulham have agreed a fee with South African club Golden Arrows for midfielder Kagiso Dikgacoi and are now awaiting a work permit for Bafana Bafana international.

13.48 Frederic Piquionne, Lyon's 6ft 2in French striker, has joined Pompey on a year-long loan.

12.05 The completion of Xabi Alonso's £30m switch from Liverpool to Real Madrid will bring an end to the Spanish club's summer spending spree, director general Jorge Valdano confirmed.

11.40 Bayern Munich have dismissed speculation that Italian striker Luca Toni is to join West Ham United on loan.

11.25 Bordeaux’s President Jean-Michel Triaud has said that Arsenal target Marouane Chamakh could leave in the "next few days”.

10.38 Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson has indicated he is prepared to listen to offers for Central defender Danny Shittu.

10.01 French international Frederic Piquionne is set to provide a timely boost for Portsmouth boss Paul Hart by agreeing a one-year loan deal.

09.45 According to The Sentinel Stoke City have pulled the plug on a move for West Ham united striker Dean Ashton because of on-going concerns over his fitness.

09.15 Stoke City boss Tony Pulis has confirmed Seyi Olofinjana is set for a £3m move to Hull after the midfielder rejected a switch to Monaco.

08.46 Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is waiting for Chelsea to make a decision on whether to allow Michael Mancienne to rejoin his nwly promoted club on loan.

08.30 The Sun report that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has failed with a £5.5m bid for Sevilla centre-back Federico Fazio.

08.00 The early transfer gossip confirms that Liverpool will use some of the £30m they pocket from the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid to make an £18m offer for Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani.
