A little about my self -

I joined weather Underground in August of 2005 right after they opened the blogging feature. I have been a weather hobbyist since the middle 60's when I lived on the west coast of Florida, north of the Tampa Bay area. I currently live in a small community in central Illinois.

I have been through numerous Hurricanes during my life time. The worse being Hurricane Camille in August 17,1969, A Cat 5, where the eye passed over the location I was at. That being Biloxi, Ms when I was in the USAF stationed at Keesler AFB.

Hello Wab. Such off and on of late. Great winter here you know. Slightly above norm for last few years, burnt norm for long time residents. Karma it is! Makes me fearful for cane season ahead. Aw heck, am always fearful in this latitude! Anyhow, happy to see NE having better winter post last year. That is, via snow, cold, lovers!,Just can't imagine tho. Stay warm in burrow up there, tulip trees,
& azaleas in full bloom for second time down here. Loving my three jacket winter day this season thus far! 'Mon home mi ami!

cloudy but warm ... reached 60 degrees here this afternoon !!! This is very unusual weather for us when we expect highs in the low 30's ...
Member Since: August 17, 2005 Posts: 361 Comments: 31226
Skye ... we have had 15 days in January that the high was above 40 degrees when the normal high is 33 degrees ... and 20 days where the high was above the average of 33 degrees ..

I expect it to be in the top 10 warmest on record for January ...

Have a feeling it will catch up to us in the near future ...

I've had a long sleeve shirt on for three days.. I'm probably just nervous for swearing off winter rye & planting spring early. Short term actually like you say not too bad & supports the pattern we've had. Almost looks like gfs wants a storm in 10 days or so..smokien um early this year..

Skye ... were suppose to have temps in the mid to high 40's all this week ...

Member Since: August 17, 2005 Posts: 361 Comments: 31226
So DID you get snow yesterday? Or did you have thunder and stuff like we did? You were on that N. Western edge of the wicked front. How's the kids? How's the roads out there? Have you seen the farmers anymore working the warmer fields? Not so much up here anymore since beginning of January. Is it Icy? We had bad winds. Was it windy there? Hope all the kids are doing well and back into a routine with school and the house and all. Hope you are laying back and relaxing a bit. Any trips planned?

:)

The snow and ice has moved out of the area and is hampering travel in Indiana .. less the an inch here but gets heavier the further north you go ...

Talked to BIL in Franklin, IN and they are getting freezing rain at the present time ...

Good morning Wabit,

Oh my goodness, your weather icon says it is 9 degrees at your weather station.

Please tell me that is not right.

That is beyond cold that is unbearable.

Stay Warm!!!

good morning. We're waking up to 36 degrees, but it will be much warmer by afternoon. That's pretty much the norm here. We've had very little cold weather. Most folks agree this will not be our winter for any snow. :(
Take care.

Thought you'd enjoy. That family of crows still visits or atleast chirps at me when they fly over.

I'm tempted to take a hard look at the long term cast & maybe try some corn early this year. It's near $1 an ear here. Ponies ate my fall corn. I've been getting a solid fence up around the south garden. Neighbor gave me about 50' of 3' pretty picket.. Guess I should finish that first..

How can temperatures change so dramatically? I see you had a drop of 24 degrees yesterday, and we were 28 yesterday morning, and now a balmy 50! There is no wonder we all get ill.... it has never stayed the same temperature two days running this year!

Wab~ I see it's 52 there.. Happy warm day to you:)

HH~ Raven was injured in a storm as a fledgling. The storm was bad & I was barn sitting there. Decided to make a special trip just to check everyone. The horses were fine but Raven wasn't. He insisted I tend him. Wasn't leaving my shoulder & took to begging for food.

Let me know what you find. If I remember right the crowd you see most fair weather days is a murder & that huge gathering you witnessed is a council.

Now there's a good story. Lucky Bird!
I had something like that happen with a wild rabit.
Found him in the woods and took him home. Even took him to a vet and found out that his front leg was broken. Got it fixed and he stayed in the house until he was ready to go....and he did. We all missed him, even my dogs did. Still havn't gotten that bird book out. But that's on the list tonight.

HH~ I used to have a pet crow..er well a crow that lived with me. He would go out & fly around, meet up with his local buddies some days. Once in a while & it is always on a weekend, they have huge councils.

Once Raven was gone for a few weeks then found out by a neighbor that informed me another neighbor had kept him in & cut his wings. He had escaped but couldn't fly very well while his wings grew in. So once again he moved in with me. Not long after two of his buddies showed up, saw his wing situation & would help me keep an eye on him against the hawks. The next weekend we had a huge council/murder come together in the field next door. Some of his buddies escorted him. Twice as many came back with him. They bitched at me about his cut wings & at him. After they left he stayed real close to me when he was outside with me til his wing grew in.

Hello everyone.
Have to tell about a strage bird thing that happened today. Crows always fly over or close on the way to the park. Always about 200 or so of them. Squalking all the way. Back again over this neighborhood about 5pm every day. Today they came over about 10am not 8am and there must have been hundreds and hundreds of them. Going all over the place somethimes the other side of the lake and other times about 1/2 mile away.
They neverstoped crowing and sometimes just covered someof the really big trees. One of my friends things they really about 800+. It was one of the most astonishing thing! Has anybody been around anything like that? Will dig out my bird books...haveto know what was going on.

Those are some cold wind chills. Hope tomorrow is warm enough to enjoy it..

Well we got hit hard by Mother Nature today.. between 5-6 inches of snow with falling temps all day which is at 14 degrees right now ..

Winds are starting to pick up blowing the snow around causing some drifting on country roads...drifting will continue over night causing hazardous road conditions ... visibility is down to just over a mile ..

wind chills near zero right now are expected to drop to -5 to -10 degrees overnight ..

Much different then the 54 degrees and sunny skies yesterday ..
Member Since: August 17, 2005 Posts: 361 Comments: 31226
Sandi ... What a change from yesterday ...

15º with around 4 inches of snow blowing around...

that's a drop of 40 degrees over yesterdays high temp ...

Quoting whitewabit:
another day in the fifty's ... 54 degrees here this afternoon ...

It was the same here Wab, but the forecast was for colder temperatures at the weekend, and the possible first frosts of 2012 next week ..... such strange weather!!
Member Since: October 29, 2005 Posts: 289 Comments: 25995
Hi Wab, Sometimes. However, it is a bit unusual. It has to be a huge wrap around going East to West on the backside of a low or something. We are 28 miles to the Lake. Due West. The majority of the Lake effect snow happens within only a few miles, but it does happen here in McHenry County sometimes. Our house borders Lake County, which sees a lot of Lake effect. Sometimes it comes down from Kenosha on the wrap.
Winds in the fields and segments of open roads will be the issue here with this storm. Those are all around us to get where we need to go, even into the more populated areas. There is still a lot of farming, or open flat lands up here.

Hope the g-kids get to go sledding at least once this year!

Code ... yes it will be nice to get some white stuff ... the kids will like it if it doesn't get to cold for them to be outside ... wind chill always has an effect around here ...
Member Since: August 17, 2005 Posts: 361 Comments: 31226
Jus ... are you close enough to the lake to get lake effect snow ???
Member Since: August 17, 2005 Posts: 361 Comments: 31226
HGW ... saw the northern areas of Il would get the 4-6 inch range and Chicago area could get more due to lake effect ... be carefull driving all the crazy's will be out ...
