Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, May 21, 2013.

After a devastating severe weather day in the Plains on Monday, severe weather is expected to fire up again across the nation's mid-section again on Tuesday.

The nearly stationary low over the Northern Plains will gradually weaken as it shifts eastward into the Midwest on Tuesday, while the system's associated cold front trails southwestward from the low across the Mid-Mississippi Valley through the Southern Plains. Favorable energy and conditions ahead of the cold front combined with the moisture laden conditions of the nation's mid-section will set the stage for multiple clusters of thunderstorms to develop from the Midwest into the Ozarks and the Southern Plains. Portions of northeastern Texas, extreme southeastern Oklahoma, central and southern Arkansas, and northwestern Louisiana are at moderate risk of severe thunderstorm activity as environmental conditions remain favorable for tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and very large hail. Areas surrounding this moderate risk region from the parts of central and eastern Texas into the Upper Great Lakes are at slight risk of severe thunderstorm development with hail, damaging wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes.

Meanwhile, areas of heavy rain and widely scattered showers will continue near the low in the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley and near and to the north of a nearly stationary frontal boundary extending out ahead of the system from the Great Lakes into the Northeast. Continued precipitation in already saturated areas of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest will maintain flood concerns from parts of North Dakota into northern Wisconsin.

Elsewhere, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to persist in the Mid-Atlantic and southeastern corner of the nation.

... A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect for Randall and
south Central Potter counties until 845 am CDT...

At 826 am CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists continued to
track a severe thunderstorm capable of producing destructive winds in
excess of 70 mph. This storm was located 3 miles west of Lake
Tanglewood... or 7 miles northeast of canyon... moving northeast at 25
mph.

* Locations in the path of this severe thunderstorm include...
canyon... Amarillo... Umbarger...
Palo Duro Canyon... Lake Tanglewood... Buffalo Lake...
Timbercreek Canyon...

This includes Interstate 27 between mile markers 91 and 123.

This includes Interstate 40 between mile markers 61 and 74.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Severe thunderstorms produce damaging wind in excess of 60 miles per
hour... destructive hail... deadly lightning... and very heavy rain. For

At 826 am CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists continued to
track a severe thunderstorm capable of producing destructive winds in
excess of 70 mph. This storm was located near Lake Tanglewood... or 9
miles south of Amarillo... moving northeast at 30 mph.

* Locations in the path of this severe thunderstorm include...

The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued an

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
Randall County in the Panhandle of Texas...
southern Potter County in the Panhandle of Texas...

* until 1100 am CDT

* at 808 am CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists detected a
thunderstorm with heavy rainfall 7 miles northwest of Lake
Tanglewood... or 8 miles southwest of Amarillo. Very heavy rain has
already fallen over parts of the advisory area with additional
heavy rain expected. Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause
minor flooding to occur... especially along small streams and near
low water crossings.

* Some locations that will experience minor flooding include...
canyon... Amarillo... Umbarger...
Lake Tanglewood... Timbercreek Canyon...

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An additional one inch of rainfall is still possible in the advisory
area.

Excessive runoff from this storm will cause minor flooding of small
creeks and streams... urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses
as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
