Through 10 PM MST...rain and high elevation snow showers will continue to expand in areal coverage ahead of a cold front progressing east across western and central New Mexico...including the Rio Grande Valley between Socorro...Albuquerque...Santa Fe and Taos. Snow levels will continue to be high ahead of the front... around 8500 feet...but will drop to around 5500 feet behind the front. Rain amounts will generally be a tenth of an inch or less... with snow amounts of 1 to 2 inches possible...especially in the jemez and Tusas Mountains. In addition...windy conditions will persist with occasional gusts to between 35 and 40 mph. A rumble of thunder or two can not be ruled out.

... Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 5 PM MST Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow... which is in effect until 5 PM MST
Tuesday.

* Snow accumulations... expect between 2 to 3 inches.

* Timing... the heaviest snow will occur mid evening and last into
early Tuesday morning before lessening.

* Winds... initial south/southwest wind 15 to 25 mph with gusts to
35 mph becoming westerly with eventual diminishing speeds late
tonight. An intense band of wind will be found along the frontal
passage with gusts as high as 45 mph possible mid evening.

* Snow levels... snow levels will drop to the valley floor between
mid to late evening.

* Local impacts... visibilities will be significantly reduced due
to the expected intense snow bands and slushy roadways are
expected to freeze Tuesday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Motorists should be alert to changing weather conditions and take
precautions if travel is necessary.
