At 422 PM...scattered showers and thunderstorms were developing over Central Grant County and lowlands of eastern Sierra County. Storms are slow to drift south and thus have the potential for locally heavy rain with rapid runoff. Radar has estimated up to 0.75" of rainfall in the last hour...from storms over the headwaters into Ash Canyon. Amounts over one inch are possible over the areas mentioned above...in addition to gusty downburst winds to 45 mph and frequent cloud to ground lightning.

Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 5:20 PM MDT on July 03, 2015

The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
central Sierra County in north central New Mexico...

* until 715 PM MDT

* at 515 PM MDT... Doppler radar has estimated up to one and a half inches of rainfall
from thunderstorms over Ash Canyon. This will cause Arroyo and Small Stream flooding
in the advisory area... especially across low water crossings along Highway 177
between mile markers 3 and 6.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Truth or Consequences and especially rural areas just east of town along Highway 177.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

* until 800 PM MDT

* at 453 PM MDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from
thunderstorms over Interstate ten between mile markers 91 and

has already fallen west of the freeway.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Alamosa Canyon...
Rock House...
and North Monticello Point.

Up to one and a half inches of additional rainfall is expected over
the area in the next hour. This will lead to minor flooding
wtih rapid runoff along area streams and arroyos.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.
