The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
western La Plata County in southwestern Colorado...
southeastern Montezuma County in southwestern Colorado...

* until 315 PM MDT

* at 1222 PM MDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause Arroyo and Small Stream flooding in
the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Mancos... and the Mancos river from north of Mancos to southwest of
Mesa Verde National Park... including Mancos Canyon. Smaller creeks
and streams draining into the Mancos river in this area may also
see minor flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around... dont drown. Never drive your vehicle into areas where
the water covers the roadway.

Heavy rainfall will cause normally dry washes and arroyos to flow. Do
not attempt to travel across flooded areas.

At 115 PM MDT... Doppler radar was tracking a line of thunderstorms
10 miles west of Durango... moving east at 15 mph.

Dime size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with
these storms. Also brief heavy rain is expected and may produce
ponding on roadways.

Locations impacted include...
Durango... La Plata... Breen... Rockwood... Mayday... Kline... Trimble...
Tacoma... Hermosa... Hesperus... Marvel and Falfa... and Highway 160
from just west of Hesperus to Durango.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 15 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
