Not the best due to all the local light pollution but still better than a black sky. It was approximately 5 below with a slight wind while waiting for the lights to appear.

Digital cameras are great for taking time exposure photos - more people should try it! Thank you for this fine photo. It is nice to see the sky against the contrast of the horizon.

Congrats John! Next series idea..... YOU in FLIP FLOPS and Shorts standing in the snow! :):)

kidding aside, My daughter has been caught by dramatic changes in weather in Montana. Once she was actually in flip flops, while scraping snow off her windshield !

Beautiful shot! Congrats! 10! My son was at Elmendorf AFB for about 3 years and talked about going out in a T-shirt, shorts and flip flops for a short time in mid-winter. Stay warm!

Absolutluy awesome!!

I once saw a brilliant display of the Aurora in Northern Vermont where we were living almost thirty years ago .. It was alternating between shimmering red ribbons of brilliant color to green waves of distorted opalescence .. I would feel very fortunate to live where this current Aurora is showing it's finest displays .. Thanks for sharing and 'congrats' on the acknowledgment from WU.

And please keep us posted with any other 'jaw-dropping' images of the Northern Lights.

I am lovin' all the beautiful northern light shots lately! Here is a neat link that I found on how to photograph them. Wish some would come to Nevada but not too likely.

About johngomes
johngomes I retired as a police officer/crash rescue firefighter in April of 1990. I have enjoyed photography since the mid 70's and crossed over to the digital world in 1996. Along with being the volunteer photographer for the Alaska Zoo the main focus of my photography is to show Alaska as it passes in front of my lens on a day to day basis. While viewing my albums be sure to look for lnks to Britt Coon's Smug Mug albums. She is becoming a great photographer in her own right and it has been fun watching her develop her skills for the last couple of years that we have worked together. To view more of her work click here and visit her SmugMug album.
